Session: The controversy of choice in Israel is the tension between Ashkenazim and Sefardim (Mizrahim). It seems odd that we still address this issue as the intercommunity amalgamation goes so well, and the rate of “intermarriage” exceeds 60 %. However, there is nothing new about it.
I will bring the personal story of my family as seen through the eyes of my late grandmother, Miriam Bouskela-Gutmann, who published her story “The Two Sofas” regarding her own search of identity between Sefardi and Ashkenazi from over 100 years ago.
