We will look at four short extracts from Martin Buber's Tales of the Hasidim, which deal with the (then) revolutionary approach to prayer of the Baal Shem Tov and his followers. These stories reflect the power of childlike simplicity in coming closer to God, but also the terrifying consequences of such an encounter. This is prayer as a matter of life and death; as a mover of the very universe itself.
