Session: Under a right-wing government Israel is gradually transforming into a more religious and nationalist society. This session will explore sociological processes of top-down religionization of the educational system and resistance to it in civil society.
Bio:
Daniel Monterescu is associate professor of anthropology at the Central European University, Budapest, Hungary. He holds a MA from Tel-Aviv University and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. His last book “Jaffa Shared and Shattered: Contrived Coexistence in Israel/Palestine” (Indiana UP, 2015) has been designated a Finalist of the 2016 AJS Jordan Schnitzer Book Awards.
